No Place But Here is a 360 documentary by Dylan Valley and Annie Nisenson.
The film brings the viewer inside Cissie Gool House, a housing occupation in a former public hospital in Woodstock, Cape Town. The building was occupied by Reclaim the City in 2017 as a response to displacement, gentrification and the lack of affordable, well-located housing.
For Resonate, the project sat exactly where our work belongs: between real space, social meaning and exact technical execution.
The mix had to preserve the documentary truth of a lived environment while shaping enough spatial detail for the viewer to understand where they were, who was speaking, and what the building felt like around them.
The objective was not to make the film louder or more cinematic. It was to let the building speak. To hold the listener inside a real, contested space. To support a documentary experience built on presence, dignity and proximity.

The work began on site, recording ambisonic audio with a Sennheiser AMBEO system to capture the spatial character of Cissie Gool House at source.
That foundation was expanded through additional ambisonic cityscape and atmosphere recordings, building a wider sonic map of Woodstock and the surrounding urban environment.
In post, Resonate developed the sound design around the film’s spatial logic. Foley and SFX were added where the 360 image needed tactile support: movement through rooms, gestures, transitions, surface detail and small human actions.
The final VR spatial mix balanced realism, movement, intelligibility and immersion across the full 360 field.
