VR – Virtual Media Prototyping Engine

The VMPE is a comprehensive design process tool aimed at AV designers, Content Creators and Sound Designers, as a means to collaborate on a global scale in real-time. It consists of a dedicated Content Distribution Network and media data pipeline that seamlessly synchronises audio and visual content amongst all users automatically.

Circumstances in early 2020 meant that creative teams were scattered around the globe. Using our platform, we were able to collaborate, share and develop content for the entire complex as a team.

Our use-case for this concept was its initial development and hugely successful design and roll out of the AV content and control systems for the main UAE Pavilion at the World Expo 2020. Using our custom written audio driver software, we were able to design and mix audio into 48 speaker point VR  rooms, able to hear the flanking noise from adjacent areas, make design decisions, and experience each and every sound as it will be in the real-world design. This process drastically cuts down build out time too, as we end up using the exact same calibrated files on the final servers, and all spatial information is taken into account beforehand as well as system file structures.

This VR app is essential for sound design, area testing, music composition, the various graphic and film artists and their content creative directions and testing, the interactive artists and all clients needing to experience and review these multimedia deliveries in an immersive and collaborative way, while being able to update the experience to all users in a seamless & user-friendly way.

From a visual standpoint, the media designers have the ability to see and test their visual designs in VR, easily switching iterations for ease of design. Being able to stand in a VR space exacting to the final design is a hugely valuable tool for designers, but also for clients and art directors, where ideas can be easily presented, feedback gathered and collaborations can take place in the ability to store custom, shareable user specific audio mixer settings. The engine even allows client content review renders for those without VR equipment.

Our Prototyping Engine has been designed to be clean and professional, aiming to ultimately become a client-facing tool, enabling rapid AV design.  This process cuts out countless flying hours, travel expenses, on-site buildout times and most importantly, it enables a better, more client involved tool for AV creation. A new way of working for a new World never achieved before.
